The Cause of the Family Name"<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Ephesians 3:14-15 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
   Life is filled with causes. There is hardly a day that goes by that we do not hear of a particular cause to rally to. The causes we hear of may be political, social, or radical, but no cause can rival the ultimate cause. Some causes are odd in a way. We know that often city gangs are totally sold out to the cause of keeping their turf. What a strange way there is about people. So many desire to fight for a cause simply for the sake of fighting, and yet when given the real cause of eternity to fight for they often balk.
   What do you bow your knee to? What cause ignites passion in your heart and fire in your bones? What reason do you get out of bed in the morning? There are many good causes that we all believe in. All of us feel it important to be involved with helping a neighbor, working for our families, supporting charities, and so many other wonderful things. All these are important and yet what is the foundation of such work? For the secularist it is the glory of humanity as a whole and often the self, mainly. Those who follow Christ work in many ways to better society and yet the reasons are different. The Christian feeds the poor, clothes the naked, visits the prisoners, etc. for the glory of God. The motivation of the believer is to lift up the name for which all the family of God is named. Consider the following scripture verses;
"According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named" - Ephesians 3:11-15
We are living in perilous times in our nation's history. We have had great challenges before. When you think of these challenges in our history, World War II, and the Great Depression come to mind. We got through these but how? We survived and prospered because we had a basic set of principles that held together the fabric of this great nation. Even with all of our flaws we loved our country, we loved our Constitution, and we honored and respected God. Patriotism meant standing on the principles of liberty and faith. God and country! Today the left wants us to believe that constantly attacking your own country is patriotic. They want us to believe that seeing America as the cause of all ills is patriotic. They want us to believe that organizations like "moveon.org" and the "A.C.L.U." are the examples of patriotic thinking and actions…God help us to withstand the insanity of these organizations and their desire to destroy our foundations.
The great missionary movements in our American history spread the gospel throughout the world. Our nation was birthed in the midst of great awakening to Christianity. Our Churches preached the Word of God. The name of Christ was not treated with disrespect in the media or art world. Today the American public no longer looks to honor the cause of the name of Christ.
The Apostle Paul in Ephesians 3:14-15 clearly speaks of the cause of Christ as he also does in the beginning of Ephesians chapter three verse one "For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles". Here the Apostle speaks of himself being a "prisoner". He states this because he is chained to the cause of spreading the family name of heaven and seeing more people adopted into the family. For Paul, the cause is Christ and the spreading of the gospel. The Apostle would agree with many important causes that we all fight for, however nothing is as important as the one matchless name, the name above all names, the only name whereby we must be saved, and that name is Jesus. For all of the whole family of God in heaven and earth is named. A family name was no small thing in biblical times. The family name spoke of who you were joined to, what wealth you had, and who anyone could expect to deal with should they attempt any harm on a person of that particular family name. For believers, the family name is Jesus (meaning salvation). Whoever thinks that they can in any way harm a believer without having that believer's eternal father deal with them eventually is sadly deceived. We who are saved by the blood of the lamb were bought with the precious blood of Christ and have become the children of God. This blessing we have purely by receiving the only name whereby we can be saved. Whatsoever we do, we do in the name of Jesus Christ because all that we do speaks of what family name we carry. Our cause is Christ and our passion is our eternal family.
I am known as one who fights for biblical principles. I am not afraid to speak out against liberalism. I think Christians should speak out and yet what matters most to me is the cause of Jesus Christ. That cause is to see all people receive Jesus by their own free will. Christian teaching is not like Islam at all. Islam believes in forced conversion to its religion. Christians understand that it is impossible to force anyone to convert to Christianity. For a person to be Christian, they must of their own free volition choose to accept the message of Jesus Christ. The cause of Christ is that all people will hear the gospel and turn from their self righteousness, for we may never save ourselves from eternal separation from God. We are saved by Christ as we humble ourselves before him.
As much as we fight for traditional family values and the Constitutional principles of our Christian heritage, we must fight the powers of darkness more by proclaiming the cause of the family name. When speaking of how we get to heaven Jesus said the following;
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber" - John 10:1
We must speak out on the horrible killing of the unborn. We must speak out against the destruction of our Christian freedom etc. But we must not forget that those causes are not the gospel itself. The gospel is the expansion of the family of God by the preaching of Jesus Christ as Savior to a lost and dying world. From the basis of that understanding we fight against evil. There is no other name or way to heaven other than the family name; Jesus Christ. Consider the following verse;
"Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved"
                                              (Under line emphasis mine) - Acts 4:10-12
So fight the good fight brothers and sisters. Fight with the power of the name of Christ. Preach the gospel as you help the poor and the needy. Show your faith by what you do and stand for what is right in Christ. Pray for the passion and heart of Christ to bring renewed zeal to every Christian. Speak out against the liberal establishment and it's never ending attack on the foundation of our land but I also ask you to take time to lead people to the family name, the name above all names, the only name of the only true Savior…Jesus Christ the Lord.
